Wieliczka Salt Mine – the Regis Shaft
The Regis Shaft, which is over 700 years old – the oldest in the Wieliczka mine – was built in the 14th century at the behest of King Casimir the Great. Today tourists descend the historic shaft once used to move the excavated salt above ground to an impressive depth of over 127 meters, where they can explore the Mining Route. The age-old structure of the building has undergone a thorough renovation that was made complete with our outdoor lighting fixtures. Thanks to the illumination devised by Dr. Mirosław Sulma, the Regis Shaft is an impressive sight even after dark.
